Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva promised a “COP of truth” in the Amazon rainforests.

Ten years since the Paris Agreement, when the world agreed to keep global warming in check to avoid catastrophic consequences, and 30 years since climate negotiations began, countries are failing to reach targets.

“If we fail to move beyond speeches into real action, our societies will lose faith – not only in the COPs, but in multilateralism and international politics more broadly,” Lula said.
