An Island-Wide ‘Art Trail’ Is Coming To O‘ahu In 2025

The island of O‘ahu will undergo a massive art initiative next year that will add color, personality, history, and culture to sites around the island.

Beginning in January 2025, the just-announced campaign will result in 11 new art installations that focus on culturally important areas and the retelling of their history.

At a news conference this week, the City on Honolulu introduced the new public art initiative, known as Wahi Pana, which translates to “Storied Places.”

The Wahi Pana project is “designed to activate culturally significant sites across O‘ahu, celebrating stories deeply rooted in Native Hawaiian history.”

Hawaiians rely on historical and cultural understanding to bring forth purpose and meaning in the present.

“Wahi Pana engages and educates Hawai‘i’s residents and visitors through art that explores the layered and profound mo‘olelo (stories) of our ‘āina (land),” the project description explains.
