The Cook Islands is set to host it’s biggest national event, the Te Maeva Nui festival.

It’s an annual event that celebrates Cook Islands self governance and identity, with a display of cultural performances, dance and song. This year marks the 59th Te Maeva Nui event.

“It kicks off with a float parade,” said Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Development, Emile Kairua.

“We are going to introduce traditional sports into the mix, and of course we have the cultural performances,” he added.

“It’s a chance for Cook Islanders to celebrate the language and culture that makes us who we are.”
