Asmall but symbolic revolution is brewing in Mata Utu. From October 20th to 24th , Wallis and Futuna will become the laboratory for the Pacific's energy future . Engineers, experts, and officials from Polynesia, New Caledonia, Fiji, and Curaçao will gather in Akaaka for a workshop unlike any other: four days to imagine how the islands can achieve energy self-sufficiency .
The program is called Green Overseas (GO) . Funded by the European Union and managed by Expertise France , it supports European overseas territories in their transition to renewable energy . In Wallis, the question is urgent: how to produce solar, wind, or hydroelectric power on a tiny grid, isolated from the world, without depending on imported fuel?
