Spanish renewable energy company Norvento Enerxia announced on Monday it has started the installation of a seven-turbine wind park that is expected to partially meet the energy demand of the Portuguese island of Corvo in the Azores.

Norvento has developed this project for local energy company EDA Renovaveis and is realising it under a turnkey order. The firm is deploying seven of its medium-power nED100 turbines along with a SCADA monitoring system. According to information available on its website, each nED100 unit has a rated power of 100 kW.

The developer said that this project will improve the quality of the electricity supply to the 400 inhabitants of the island, which, up until now, has relied exclusively on fossil fuels obtained from the sea.
