President of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, has congratulated Anette Thomas Sanford on becoming the first woman to be voted as Kalinago Chief.
She expressed hopes that Sanford will put political differences aside to develop the indigenous people of Dominica.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Anette Thomas Sanford on her election as the first female Kalinago Chief,” she said while addressing the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eleventh Parliament on Friday.
“I am optimistic that she will work towards unifying the Kalinago people putting all political differences aside and working towards the sustainable development of all Kalinago people both here and abroad.”
