The Gran Canaria Island Council, through the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council (CIEGC) and in collaboration with the Department of Food Sovereignty and Primary Sector, has launched a tender for the installation of an agrivoltaic solar photovoltaic system at the El Galeón farm in the municipality of Santa Brígida. This strategic pilot project is designed to demonstrate the compatibility between agricultural activity and renewable energy generation, simultaneously advancing the objectives of energy transition, adaptation to climate change, and strengthening the island's food sovereignty.

Agrivoltaics allows the installation of elevated solar panels on agricultural surfaces, so that productive soil is not lost, the microclimatic conditions of the crops are improved, reducing water and heat stress, and clean energy is generated for self-consumption, with a direct impact on the economic and environmental sustainability of the farms.
